Located in the south western part of Kenya, the Masai Mara is a large reserve named for the tribes people of the area. A notable characteristic of this park is the abundant wildlife. While not the largest park in Kenya, it is perhaps, the most famous. The “big five” are plentiful, but Masai Mara is has a very active lion population that is frequently photographed.
The wildebeest are most populous – estimated in the millions. Each July the Great Migration occurs, north from the Serengeti and returning to the south in October. The sea of wildlife traverse the plains en masse, seeking fresh pastures. It was from this amazing spectacle that Disney’s, “The Lion King” produced “The Circle of Life”. |
