THE ROMANCE OF TANZANIA

Day 1 - Depart US

Day 2 - Amsterdam/Arusha
Connect in Amsterdam with your flight to Kilimanjaro Airport, arriving late evening. You will be met on arrival by Safari Legacy and transferred to the historical Arusha Hotel for a welcome briefing and overnight New Arusha Hotel (BB)

Day 3, 4 & 5 - Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, we depart Arusha, traveling southwest through the Maasai Steppe to Tarangire National Park. Each day we have the opportunity of morning and afternoon game drives exploring Tarangire National Park. Here we observe a diversity of wildlife amidst the many baobab trees for which the park is famous. Tarangire, best known for its herds of elephant, is home to more than 2,500 individuals. Other common mammals include Impala, African Buffalo, Common Zebra and Maasai Giraffe. Rarer mammals include Leopard, Fringe-eared Oryx and Lesser Kudu. The park is also home to more than 260 bird species. Overnight Safari Legacy’s Kikoti Camp (FB)

Day 6 & 7 – Lake Manyara National Park - Lake Eyasi & The Hadzabe Bushman
After breakfast we drive with lunch boxes via Lake Manyara National Park for wildlife viewing, and then proceed to the shores of Lake Eyasi visiting the fascinating villages of Mto wa Mbu and Karatu. We will have wonderful opportunities to visit with and interact with the Barabaig and Datoga tribes before reaching the lakeshore. After lunch we will arrive at Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp, our accommodations for the next two nights. The highlight of our safari will be an incredible opportunity to share in the day to day lives of one of the last hunter gatherer groups in Africa – the Hadzabe Bushmen. The Hadzabe use an ancient dialect that is similar to the clicking tribe of South Africa. Escorted by our friend, Momayo Muhindoi, we will be able to interact with and experience the life of the Hadzabe for the next two days. Overnight Kisima Ngeda Camp (FB).

Day 8 & 9 – Lake Eyasi – Ngorongoro
Morning in Lake Eyasi, later bid farewell to our Hadzabe hosts we will drive after lunch to Karatu. Next day experience the Ngorongoro Crater, the Earth’s largest unbroken caldera. A veritable “Garden of Eden”, the Crater is reputed to contain the highest density of carnivores, which includes Cheetah, Leopard and Lion. This is the only place in East Africa where one can easily observe Black Rhino. Our home for the next two nights is in Karatu Area outside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the magnificent Ngorongoro Farmhouse (FB).

Days 10, 11 & 12: Olduvai Gorge / Serengeti National Park

Today we head for the Serengeti, en-route visiting Olduvai Gorge, a river canyon cutting 300 ft into the volcanic Serengeti plains, once home to our earliest ancestors. Their remains can still be found nestling in the exposed soils. After a Masai village and school visit we descend to the Serengeti Plains. Part of the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem, Serengeti National Park is home to the most famous wildlife spectacle on earth, the annual migration of a million wildebeest. We use the Seronera Plains for our camping in order to ensure year round access to some of the most spectacular wildlife viewing on earth. You may also enjoy the option of a hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti Plains. Overnight Safari Legacy Private Mobile Tented Camp (FB).

Day 13: Serengeti National Park / Arusha
Fly to Arusha; farewell lunch and dayrooms at New Arusha Hotel until evening transfer to the airport for departure flight.

Day 14 - Amsterdam / US
